Coming soon—we’re moving to Canada.ca
We’re almost ready to launch the new passport section on Canada.ca. This change will make it easier to find the passport information you need.
Can I keep my valid passport until I receive my new one?
No, if you have a valid passport you must submit it with your application for a new one. But, if you have a valid passport, you may be eligible to apply for a new passport through our simplified renewal process.
The passport can also be used as supporting identification for a new application as long as:
- the passport is still valid or has expired within the past year,
- the original passport is submitted with the application (photocopies will not be accepted), and
- the name in the passport is the same as the name on the new application.
